I love "Vovo's Advice" . The Creolenglish makes it powerful-of course it is much better when you actually read it ! Thanks for sharing your poetry with my students. I hope to get them to come to this site -read some of your poetry and comment.
I would tell other teachers to invite you to come and read your work and discuss the poetic process with their students.

um gosta djeu de quel poema de 'sol de djarfogo' pmd el ta lenbran canto staba na scola na cv que sol ta staba quente demas man ka tinha nada fase tinha que baba scola dento del sime...lol
mas tanbe um gosta del pmd me como imigrante um tene ganam sabe mode que nha terra sta , mode que nha guents sta se djes squece de me sol se bu pode fran kusas ques sta ta fra? I like this poem because if reminds me of the days in Cape Verde when I was going to school and it was very hot outside but I still had to go to school. I like this because as an immigrant I would like to know about my island, my people, friends and family if they still remenber me?? Sun can you tell me what they say?

um gosta tcheu de quel poema de " vovo's advice",pamode e ta relaciona tcheu cu vida social de jovens de hoje em relacao a consedjo de guentis mais grande. hoje em dia e ca tudo jovens ki sta obi cu alguem mais grande ki es. jovens de gosi es cre faze tudo cuzas ki das na cabeca,sem es pidi alguem grande consedjo sobre cuzas ki es cre faze.
i like the poem "vovo's advice" because its related now to youth social life and the advice from old people. on the daily basics not all the youth is listening to old people. Now young people they want to do everything that they have in their mind,without asking old people for advice.

I like the poem "vovo advice"because i reminds me when my grandmother used to give me advice about not hang out in the street with kids that i dont know very well because you dont know what kind of person they are. I relly like the way its written becausse its the same way that old people from Cape Verde speaks English

i really like the poem "vovo's advice" because it rimends me of my grandmother , she gives me advice everytime i go visit her and sometimes she trys to talk to me in english and she talks like its writing in the poem. i also like the way u write the english exactly how old peoples talk in english.

the poem "Sol di Djarfogo" is an poem that applies to me because i really miss sol di djar fogo .i miss seating outside in the sun, i really want to go back and do the things that i use to do when i was there.

I like this poem called “sol di Djarfogo” it remind me when I was in cabo verde “ta trabadja Agricultura” such as Monda dentu sol kenti di Djarfogo nha terra, sodade dja dam.
I remember clearly in my mind the last day I was in Cape Verde at airport, saying bye to my family. My grandmother (pucha se lensu el kumensa ta limpa lagrimas) as in the poem kel lensu branku es perde-l na mon di bentu es dixa-n na dia di nha partida. It’s a great poem but its written difficult language.

I like this poem because its reminding me of my grandma. I remember when i was in Haiti, she always used to tell me stories by showing me some great examples about life, how to control my life so I can become a better person. When I was younger I didn't' really listen to her, I didn't give her much attention now, I wish I had her in my life to give me some advice. I also like this poem because I realize that you should listen to those people who are older than you. They have a lot to offer you to lead us in the right direction.

I enjoyed reading the poem vovo's advice. I can relate to that poem in many ways. it remind me of Cape Verde and my grandfather. I also relate to it because when i first came to United State i wasn’t a great English speaker.

Hi all -It is so interesting to me how universal the appeal of the poem "Vovo's Advice" is! It seems we live in a society now where we don't listen enough to older people; yet,we could learn a lot from them if we did-couldn't we?
